HIFF and other stuph
Apr. 29th, 2008 05:29 pmSaw a couple of movies at the Hawaii International Film Festival last week... "Mongol" and "Vexeille". Both were very good, and in fact I'm even considering getting "Mongol" when it comes out on DVD (it's in Mongolian w/English subtitles). "Vexeille" was good, though I'm not a huge anime fan so I probably won't get this one (I believe it's already out on DVD).
This week I got a couple of items that I'd been holding off on getting until I could get a car big enough to carry them in without worrying about the hassle of getting them delivered. One was a 5-piece folding table set and the other was a relatively heavy-duty vacuum cleaner. Both were things I'd wanted for a while (and yes, I already used the vacuum... it works better than advertised, if you ask me).
And for those who are wondering... yes, the Tahoe hybrid has done very well on the road. It even gets (slightly) better gas mileage than the RL sedan, which I've all but thrown into retirement. While I use the RL every so often, mainly for church, the Tahoe has become my vehicle of choice for commuting as well as going out. With more space and better gas mileage (though less amenities), it still gives me far better bang for the buck. It's probably very much up in the air as to whether the higher price tag for the hybrid was worth it, but with gas constantly going up in price, it might actually make a decent chunk of its premium sooner than later.
Last night I put a couple of plastic bags on the back of my computer chair since Lani seems to enjoy jumping onto the top of the chair back and sharpening her claws on it. Supposedly cats hate plastic coverings, and I'm guessing they feel the same way about plastic garbage bags, but we'll see what happens. So far, she hasn't jumped onto the chair, but there's no telling how long that will last.
That's about it for now. Time to get back to cleaning my place (though I'm going to take a break in a bit to go shower and get food)...
