Miss Cellany
Jun. 13th, 2005 10:23 pmFor my work in the weather career field and in forecasting, I'm not very good at predicting my own future.
Not that it matters much since I believe a Biblical proverb that says "a man's mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps" (Proverbs 16:9).
However, I digress. I've learned that my chances of deploying at the end of this year or early next year may not be as high as I originally thought. While I'm still in the "hot seat" as far as being possibly picked to deploy, there appears to be a pretty good pool of junior company grade officers if the tasking calls for one of them. Now if the tasking called for a mid-grade or more senior officer, then I could be deploying.
But... the upshot of all of that is that I'm pondering penciling in leave for FC 06 (yeah, I know this is WAY far out) in January. However, I definitely plan to get some kind of trip cancellation insurance or pay the extra for a fully refundable airline ticket in case I have to change or cancel my plans at the last minute.
Like I said, I'm penciling in the leave now but not going to solidify it until later in the year, probably around the beginning of October or so.
In other news, I learned a lesson about Perl scripting the hard way. Don't put a perl script on a server if the script is a memory hog. That script crashed the server twice last week. I've since pulled the script from the server and plan to get it working on a local machine before I put it back on the network.
In still other news... RUMINT (rumor intelligence) has it that
ionotter could be pondering a visit here later this year. However, I'm not gonna hold my breath until the RUMINT gets confirmed.
