All kinds of stuff to get caught up on since my last entry.

First off, on Tuesday [livejournal.com profile] araquan flew back home... had a bit of a snafu at Honolulu Airport that's probably best noted in his LJ entry. After I dropped him off, I went to visit my mom (turned out my sister was staying overnight too), so we hung out for a few hours before I had to leave... had to get some rest since I worked Wednesday morning.

I don't remember if it was Monday or Tuesday that I also found out that President Bush had declared Friday (yesterday) a federal holiday. That felt weird considering that 11 June is also a state holiday (King Kamehameha Day)... and perhaps weirder still because I had a 4-day work week last week (due to Memorial Day) and have what will be more like a 4.5-day work week this coming week (Friday is considered a "training holiday," meaning military personnel are generally off). The training holidays used to be called ADONSAs, or A Day of Non-Scheduled Activities, but the story I heard was that the terminology was changed because military personnel were coming in to work on those days. I myself would generally treat them as days off but always with the caveat that I would be fully reachable if something were to happen.

Wednesday and Thursday were pretty uneventful, though I did some PT on both days (and still need to do something later on today -- minimum 30 minutes aerobics plus situps and pushups). I think it was Wednesday that I also found out that blues legend Ray Charles had passed away. With Reagan having died last week, and bad things usually coming in threes, I expect we'll be losing another celebrity within the next week. We'll see if that happens.

Thursday night I got together with some other New Hope Sound Ministry volunteers for a get-together... and got to meet other folks that I've been volunteering some of my Sundays with. What the Sound Ministry is responsible for is basically setting up and tearing down sound equipment for the weekend services, ensuring microphones (lapel mikes and handheld ones) are working, and so on. Funny thing is that serving on this team has reminded me back of when I worked in sound on the drama club in high school.

Yesterday I went to see "The Chronicles of Riddick," which I thought was good -- not great, but good. Lots of special effects, and fairly good story... though not having seen "Pitch Black," which was its predecessor, I don't know how much continuity I lost. Bits of trivia though... Keith David, the Imam, was the voice of Goliath in "Gargoyles."

Today I went to a cousin's birthday party at the local Dave & Buster's... was fun, and I managed to win myself a $5 D&B game card... so I can play up to, what, 5 to 10 video games? Heh... I've never been much of a video games fan, but who knows?... Plus I understand the game cards are rechargeable, so....
