Bittersweet
Dec. 18th, 2014 12:29 amThe past few days have been bittersweet.
This week I learned that an active duty Air Force member that I had worked with in Korea back in 2000 had drowned in a canoeing accident on Sunday. That hit hard because the guy was a hard worker and a good friend, even though I hadn't heard from him except through social media. He was also younger than me, married with a son (not sure if he had any other kids). That brought back memories of two other friends who had left this earth way before their time.
evil_dwagon was one and the other was a fur known as Rrroofus; the latter was married with two kids, and I had actually met his wife before (but hadn't realized they were married at the time).
The "sweet" part was that I also learned that I'd won an annual award at the PACAF level for civilian of the year (GS1-11), which isn't an easy feat by any means. That still hasn't fully sunk in either, and probably won't until I actually receive the award. I've had co-workers ask me if there's any $$$ attached to the award. I said that as far as I knew all that came with it was a cool plaque/trophy of some sort and bragging rights. Since I'd never won this kind of award before, I had no clue what actually went with it. I imagine I'll find out more next month.
