Got back from FC 2013 last Wednesday but not without a rather nasty stomach virus. It wasn't enough to send me to the hospital, but it was enough to keep me mostly out of it on the flight back and off my feet for the rest of that day and the next. I was better by Friday, but the symptoms were flulike (without coughing, sore throat or vomiting): fever, chills, body aches and the runs.

Now I'm reading that a rather nasty norovirus is spreading, and I suspect that's what I had. It appeared to originate in Australia and seems to be spreading around the U.S., including Hawaii. Plus, the norovirus can remain contagious for up to 2 weeks after recovery, so I'm staying well away from [livejournal.com profile] technocollie (for his safety) for at least the next couple of weeks. That gets extended, of course, if he ends up getting it from someone else and is hospitalized as a result.

On a different note, on Friday I found an email from my supervisor's boss saying that if the yahoos in Congress decide to shutdown the federal government, he fully intends to classify the civilians who work in certain positions (including mine) as essential personnel. If this holds, then we would be able to continue to work and not be subject to furlough. It's an interesting development but I don't know yet what this means in terms of me being able to go on trips, etc. Not going to hold my breath, unfortunately.
