Underdog, Skinwalkers and Flossie
Aug. 14th, 2007 01:25 pmCapsule review of "Underdog" (no spoilers):
This one's amusing and cute. Not sickeningly, anime-ish ky00t... perhaps a better word is "quaint"? Anyone familiar with the Underdog cartoon series that aired in the 60s (1964-1973, according to Wikipedia) should get most, if not all, of the references in the movie. It was interesting to see how Underdog would translate from the cartoon medium to a live-action medium, and I actually enjoyed it. Instead of sticking to the old cartoon series, the live-action version used elements of the cartoon but came up with something different enough to be refreshing.
(And btw, there's no doubt that Shoe Shine is definitely a male beagle. :)
Capsule review of "Skinwalkers" (no spoilers):
I'm not a big fan of horror movies, although I don't think I'd classify this as much of a horror flick as more of a sci-fi/thriller one. And while I tend to give movies slack, this one just didn't do it for me. The plot and acting was okay, "aw'ight" as American Idol judge Randy Jackson would say, but there wasn't anything about the movie that really stood out to me to make me want to go see it again, much less get it on DVD.
And yes, in case anyone's wondering, we have a hurricane (Hurricane Flossie) headed our way, but as of this writing the system is forecast to pass south of the Big Island today and southwest of the rest of the islands tomorrow. Already we're getting high clouds streaming from the system into our area, and trades have kicked up a notch. The heavy rain should be hitting us sometime tonight or tomorrow.
