3 Movies and Slacker Cats
Aug. 11th, 2007 01:12 amSaw three movies in the past 2 days: "Hot Rod", "Rush Hour 3" and "Sunshine". Herewith are my capsule reviews (no spoilers, hopefully):
"Hot Rod" -- Okay, this one is mindless humor that spoofs an Evel Knievel wannabe to earn the affection of his stepfather by staging a stunt that'll help save his stepfather's life. To get more details, check out the movie's plot synopsis or just go see it. Yes, the movie is lowbrow stuff. Yes, it's stupid and "out there" as far as movies go. But when all you hear on the news is that X soldiers were killed in Iraq today, or Lindsey Lohan got re-arrested for drunk driving, or Angelina Jolie is supposedly trying to make up with her father -- you get the idea -- sometimes you need just such an escape from reality that only Hollywood can provide.
"Rush Hour 3" -- You'd think that Jackie Chan would be toning down some of his stunts, and he probably is considering he isn't getting any younger... but some of them are still impressive, though ILM also had a hand in some of the stunts. Still, while I didn't think it was as good as the first or the second, it was still pretty good, and worth seeing.
"Sunshine" -- A suicide mission to re-ignite the sun to keep it from dying out. One word of advice if you see this movie: don't try to factor in common sense into either the design of Icarus or Icarus II, or some of the decisions the crew makes.... because I'll warn you now, several scenes defy common sense. Still, though, it was a decent movie, and worth seeing.
Haven't seen "The Bourne Ultimatum" yet though, maybe either this weekend or sometime next week...
And on a different note... the trailers in the theater have been advertising a show called "Slacker Cats" that's supposed to air on the Family Channel on Monday. It appears to be in the Simpsons/Family Guy style, though I have a feeling it may not last long on a Disney-owned station because its humor is rather crude and lowbrow. But it's enough to pique this kat's curiosity. Whether or not I'll like it, though, is best left until after the premiere...
