Well, my plans for going to both movies alone got shot out of the water. Last Friday I saw "Ghost Rider" and last night was "Bridge to Terabithia"... both movies I wanted to see. I also somehow managed to snag a couple of friends into seeing "Code Name: The Cleaner" at the dollar theater.

Some of you will probably disagree with me, but I liked "Code Name: The Cleaner" over "Pan's Labyrinth". Reviews of "Cleaner" have been mixed among viewers, but it's a welcome diversion when the other movies that you want to see are more serious in nature (even an adventure one like "Ghost Rider").

And speaking of "Ghost Rider"... two claws-up. With the flurry of comic book-based movies coming out (Spider-Man 3 and Fantastic Four 2 are due out soon), I've noticed that they tend to be hit-or-miss. "Daredevil" missed. I didn't see "Elektra", "X-Men 2" or "The Incredible Hulk", but I heard they kinda missed as well. Among the hits, for me, were "Spider-Man", "Spider-Man 2", "X-Men", "X-Men 3".... and "Ghost Rider". I remember reading some of the comics on GR but because I never read the story from the beginning, I never knew how Johnny Blaze became the Ghost Rider.

But I digress. One movie I'm interested in seeing is the new TMNT movie. I'm really curious to see if it's going to key more closely off the original comics... its tone seems a bit darker than the TMNT movies that came out back in 1990.

And oh yeah, the other movie I saw... "Bridge to Terabithia." I remember reading the book, but I don't remember when. I think it might have been in 4th or 5th grade, and after seeing the movie I vaguely remember the story. But I would like to go back and re-read the book because it's been so long since I read it. I don't know how true the movie stayed to the story, but my guess is that it did. But it's one thing to read a book and another thing to see it come to life on the screen. I think it's because when you read a book, you build your own ideas of what the story's setting is like. And when you see it actually come to life, you see a different perspective of the same story.

A quick update on work: talked briefly to my supervisor yesterday (Friday). The earliest the civilian position that I'm eyeing would be advertised would be this summer, but my guess is that it might be later, especially given how slow the wheels of civilian hires go. Now what I have to choose is this; do I want to get out now and take the voluntary separation incentive pay, meaning I would have to decide by the end of March and terminate my service no later than the end of September.... or do I wait and put in my separation paperwork at the end of August, and get out in November? Otherwise I think my records would meet the next promotion board, and I honestly do not expect to make it the second time....

And FWIW, I'm penciling in dates for Anthrocon... looking at being in Dayton, OH from roughly the 4th through 18th of July and hitting AC the first weekend. No firm travel plans yet though....
