FC07, Days -1 and 0
Jan. 18th, 2007 09:12 pmI'm at FC07 in my room as I type this. Gonna do a really quick recap of yesterday and today... I call today Day Zero only because the con started about a couple hours or so ago.

technocollie and I flew into San Jose. I decided to splurge and pay the amount to upgrade both of us from coach to first class. I think in retrospect it was worth the upgrade, especially considering that Hawaiian used a refurbished 767 that hadn't had the video system put in yet. That meant no inflight movie and that headsets in coach class were complimentary (normally they're something like $5/rental). But those in first class (and a limited number of those in coach) got digEplayers, which had different video content loaded onto them. So, in a nutshell, we had video entertainment available for the entire flight.
Got into San Jose around 9:15pm (the flight left Honolulu late). By the time we picked up our luggage and got to the car rental counter, it was around 10:15pm. I had a rental from Enterprise but got to the counter only to learn that the place was closed (it closed at 10pm). That left me with no rental car, 3 checked in bags and 2 backpacks... and most notably pissed.
Checked a couple of places and found what appeared to be the best deal from Hertz. Without going into details, suffice it to say that I got a good-sized rental car for the entire trip. But I think now I've learned my lesson... I'm not renting from Enterprise again when Hertz does so much better with customer service and a counter that's open late.
We hung out withspudsmccat at the Denny's closest to the hotel, then did some grocery shopping at a 24-hour Safeway over in Fremont. Then it was back to the hotel to get some sleep.
Today I sawchayak, evilrat, makovette, tiresta, rcoony, snowwolf42 windmist, and whiteyfawks. Also met up with krag_carbine for lunch. We later met up with makovette and headed over to a Mongolian BBQ place in Santa Clara (Su's Mongolian BBQ -- I think mi1ez remembers that place because I used it as a landmark to turn from El Camino Real to his place :)
BTW, sorry if I met up with you but didn't mention you on here...
