Went to go see "Sky High" today... somewhat of a last-minute, time-crunch decision that seems to have been the norm for the movies that I saw over the weekend.
"Sky High" is the third movie that I've seen in two days. It's a Disney film, and admittedly when I saw the previews I really wasn't expecting much. BUT... I had heard secondhand that it was pretty good, and guess what... turns out it was. The story was relatively original (compared with other rehashed plots that I've seen), though I understand the plot was used in a comic before the movie came out.
Interestingly enough, it's only after I see the movie that I go back and read the reviews on it. Most of the reviews of "Sky High" are positive, with the movie rating (on Google) an average of 3.5 out of 5 stars. On a whim, I decided to check out average ratings of the other two films I saw this weekend... and as it turns out, I saw the 3 films this weekend in order of increasing quality (the best for last), according to the reviewers.
Surprisingly, I have to admit I agree with the reviewers for once. "A Sound of Thunder" was okay, halfway decent (I'd probably rate it higher than what the reviewers gave it)... "Brothers Grimm" was entertaining, and pretty much a fairy tale in and of itself... and "Sky High" was its own parody, which meant it could have really sucked or really rocked... and, for me at least, went the latter.
But I'm definitely movie'd out for the weekend... 2 movies in 1 day is bad enough, but 3 in 2 days is pushing it.
And as far as planning goes.. as far as the group I went with (and
technocollie would probably agree)... it's worse than herding furries, let alone herding regular (non-anthro) cats. One person kept changing his mind so the plans kept changing and finally decided not to go because he wanted to see a show on TV... which in turn gave the rest of us only about half an hour to make it over to the theater in time.
I generally don't like to change plans once I've made them, but the one thing that I've been gradually learning has been to be flexible. But -- and perhaps this is human nature -- the less disruptive a change is to my current plan, the more likely I'm willing to go through with it. But if I have to make any major changes, such as driving halfway across the island when I don't have enough gas in the car -- I'm less likely to say okay, especially since I never charge anyone for gas.
