I expect to be leaving the watchbill and going back to Mon-Fri admin shifts by the end of the month or so.  Not that this is necessarily a bad thing... the whole reason I was training on the watchfloor was so that I would become familiar with the issues and challenges experienced on the floor so I would be able to better understand, and integrate, back office projects into current operations.

Being on the watchbill admittedly has both its ups and downs... the rotating shifts took some getting used to, and there seem to be more days off during the week... but the tradeoff is that the shifts are longer and that my weekends aren't always free.  I also think I feel more tired after working a round of shifts than when I work straight admins during the week.

I'm neither elated nor sorry to leave the watchbill... it's simply a different experience that takes some getting used to.

One thing that going back to admins will probably do, though, is that it'll help give me a more regular PT -- and church -- schedule, something I've admittedly been missing since I started working the watch again.

If you haven't noticed, I generally like to plan early...

Sometimes I'll write off FC completely early on in the year based on my projected schedule... but no matter how certain that is at the beginning of the year, that's always subject to change.

In this case, next January I could be selected to deploy for roughly 4 months.  If that happens, it obviously nixes FC.  But at the same time, the chances of my deploying are somewhat up in the air because it depends on who gets tasked and how, and if there's another body elsewhere that can fill it.  Still, given what I've been seeing with other taskings in the past, I will not be surprised if a tasking comes down in September or October, my name gets put in as the only available person from my section, and I end up deploying.

That said, I'm going to pencil in leave for FC but I'm not going to bank on it.  I'll either pay extra for a fully refundable ticket or get trip cancellation insurance.  Orbitz is really good for the latter (trip cancellation insurance) because it specifies that if you are active duty military and have your leave revoked in writing at the last minute, you're covered.

So... for now I'll pencil in FC 06, but at this point there are no guarantees that I will be at FC 06, nor are there any guarantees that I won't be there either.  Pretty wishy-washy, I know, but whether or not I'll be there will really depend on my schedule.  That, more than fund-age, is the primary factor that'll determine whether I'm there for the con.

Either way, though, I won't be holding my breath.
