Catching up (odds and ends)
Aug. 1st, 2005 06:39 pmMy social life the past few days has been pretty much limited to reading and writing LJ entries... and it's not so much as me being a social recluse as it is more that work has been keeping me busy. The watchfloor shifts, which range from 2 to 3 days on with a 48 to 72-hour break in between, don't give me a whole lot of free time because any crew rest is included in that 48 to 72 hour span.
The upshot of all of the shift work is that I've been tired enough not to mostly stay in the local area (roughly 5 to 10 miles from home) unless I have a really good reason to do so. In other words, that's kept me within the Honolulu area, occasionally going out to Pearl Harbor or Hickam for work. That actually doesn't bother me, since one of my friends lives within that radius... but said friend either hasn't had much time to meet up, or doesn't feel like going out. Another friend who lives on the windward side of the island has been clamoring to do stuff every weekend, but I consider that area outside the "local area" and haven't felt like driving out there, not to mention work eats up every other weekend completely.
Not that it bothers me much... I'm either too tired or enjoying my car too much to care (I think in my last post I wrote about leasing a Nissan Fuga, aka the Infiniti M45). The M45 has a very nice, comfortable ride, but it's also a big car so it makes me feel somewhat self-conscious to be tooling around in it. Haven't gotten any pix of the car yet... will probably post them as soon as I get un-lazy enough to do so.
I've also been wanting to clean up my place lately but just haven't felt motivated to do it. At least, if nothing else, I have clear paths to the doors... something I definitely want in case of a fire or other emergency.
In other news... my sister got a new mouth to feed, this one in the form of a kitten that some recreatiional boaters apparently found at the docks and gave to my brother-in-law. No pix of the kitten, but from what my sister was telling me, she's keeping my brother-in-law company. The kitten's name is Opihi, or "Pihi" for short, because her fur color apparently resembles that of opihi. Haven't seen the kitten yet, though I hear she's really friendly... and smart.
In yet other news... Best Buy has opened a store in Iwilei, near Costco. The store opened this past weekend, but I haven't checked it out since I've been working all weekend. I may check it out later this week, but admittedly it isn't a super high-priority item at the moment.
That's all for now... more later!
