Jul. 20th, 2005 11:27 pmAt least a couple of my friends have already posted this in their LJs, but I'll go ahead and post it anyway:
"Scotty" beamed up for the final time
My prayers go out to Jimmy Doohan's family. It's too bad Discovery is the next space shuttle to be scheduled for launch. Perhaps it would have been more fitting had it instead been the Enterprise.
In other news... got a couple pieces of good news from work.
The first was that I had actually ended up passing my physical fitness test that I took on Tuesday, even though I had tanked the 1.5-mile run. The passing score was only because my abdominal measurement was enough to give me a (barely!) passing score. That means I have one whole year now to improve, and believe me, I do not intend to slack off.
The second was that I successfully finished Phase 2 of a 4-phase program to train Typhoon Duty Officers, or TDOs. TDOs basically are responsible for forecasting when and where tropical cyclones that may impact Department of Defense assets will go. The tradeoff for me is that it means I'm now on shift work, which has both its good and bad.
On a different note, it looks like I'll be tasked to pull escort duty later this month into next month. I shouldn't be losing any days off as a result of this, but schedules often change so it's hard to say at this point. Without going into too much details, suffice it to say that the creation of a new unit has required hiring civilian workers that don't have required security clearances, thus they must be escorted.
Will write more later... kinda tired at the moment... need sleep... zzzzz...
