Jun. 1st, 2005 10:24 pmTime for a quick recap of what I've been up to since my last (public) entry:
Went to see Madagascar on Monday, and the best way I can probably describe it is that it's mind candy. Don't take the movie seriously. It's amusing and enjoyable, but for me it ended up being somewhere in the middle of the road as far as movies go. To perhaps put it the same way that "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell once said, "it's like dinner with Paula [Abdul]... sweet but forgettable."
With not a whole lot of comedic movies currently out, Madagascar is one I wouldn't mind seeing again... especially since I can see a couple of my friends as some of the characters in the movie. :)
I also saw Star Wars Episode 3 last Friday, the night just before I left Omaha, which completes Anakin Skywalker's path to the Dark Side and Darth Vader. In retrospect, the story itself was probably not all that suprising, and George Lucas tied up quite a few loose ends. I've been finding myself drawing parallels between myself and Ani, where my squadron commander is Darth Sidius and the command where I work (combination of AF and Navy personnel) is the Jedi Council. Suffice it to say heads have butted before and will probably continue to do so, but here's where things get a bit interesting.
I should perhaps clarify one thing here: my squadron commander isn't necessarily "evil" but when heads butt, it's nice to have someone with the same rank as the squadron commander able to fight for me if need be.
Anyhow, I digress.
Yesterday I did a mock PT test and found out that I definitely have room for improvement. Right now I'm taking 14 minutes to run 1.5 miles, which is quite slow and significantly below AF standards. My goal is to get the 1.5 mile run down to 12 to 13 minutes... and it may just be a simple matter of pacing myself.
The new AF fitness reg now states that those who don't pass, whether in the marginal or poor range, must retest within 90 days. As a result, I now have to retest on the official track (1/4 mile) later this month. Personally, I would like to test on a longer track because it's easier to complete 3.5 laps (at Pearl Harbor's Quick Field) than it is to complete 6 laps on a 1/4 mile track....
