Tired kitty...
Aug. 21st, 2004 10:18 pmWent (outrigger canoe) paddling today after doing a few calisthenics (pushups and sit-ups) beforehand. Probably not the best thing in the world, considering the paddling was rather strenuous.
For starters, we went from the Pearl Harbor canoe hale, near Aloha Stadium, to the Pearl Harbor entrance. That's a round trip of something like 15 miles or so. Once we got to the entrance of Pearl Harbor, though, we tried catching some waves with the canoes... essentially canoe surfing. Apparently it's a technique that, if perfected, can result in some pretty good distance being caught with little effort.
During our time in the breakers, both canoes we took huli'd (aka capsized), so needless to say it was quite a workout righting the canoe, getting back in, then bailing water. On top of that, because of the huli, we lost a lot of the water we brought, so I was nearly dying of thirst by the time we got back to the hale. I also felt my neck, back and legs aching somewhat. They're okay now, but I haven't really had any sleep yet, so I'll probably be aching in the morning...
