A few odds and ends since my last post:

1. "American Idol" update -- both Hawaii contenders are still in the running. I'll admit I didn't agree with who made the bottom 3 this week or who was voted off... certainly not the right people, in the eyes of the judges. But the judges don't decide who goes home and who goes on... America does. It's actually interesting to see both girls still in the running despite less and less calls coming from Hawaii.

2. On Thursday I went for an upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy. It's a procedure where you lie down on your left side and a scope is inserted in your mouth and down your throat. I remember them spraying my throat twice with something that felt like Chloraseptic... numbed my throat and had me somewhat panicky because I found I had a hard time swallowing. (Of course, that was only temporary.) The last thing I remember was being told that Demerol and Versed (sedative and muscle relaxant) were being injected into my I.V... then becoming aware of my being wheeled into the recovery room. Just like when I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I lost something like 20-30 minutes. The endoscopy didn't have any side effects, but it really felt weird to just suddenly feel like you've time-warped forward. I think my first thought when I came to was, "Has it begun? Is it over?" No sore throat, no wanting to gag, no chalky taste... none of the side effects I would have expected. I do remember feeling somewhat dizzy when I tried to prop myself up and wanting water... but not necessarily ice. So far I (thankfully) haven't had major surgery, but I can only wonder what it must be like to undergo a major surgical procedure... if you actually dream, or if you just feel like you've time-warped forward (of course, when you're recovering, you're probably out of it and/or in pretty intense pain).

3. Okay, now THIS is scary... I found a copy of "Maxim" magazine with Marge Simpson -- yes, you heard right, Marge -- on the cover, in a rather sexy negligee, cleaning the floor.... and possibly a hint of.... uh, something between her legs (it's transparent enough that you can see her legs but opaque enough that you can't make them out very clearly). Even more fun... it also says on the front of the magazine, "Already worth $4.99 on eBay!" And inside, well... Marge really lets her hair down. >:)

4. Also on my list of recent acquisitions: "The Art of Miyazaki's Spirited Away". I'm not much of an anime fan, but Spirited Away holds a very special meaning to me for several reasons, the biggest being that it was the last movie I got to show my dad before he passed away... I showed it to him on a Saturday, and he passed away the following Tuesday (almost a year ago, now). In his latter years he liked cartoons, and though I'm not sure how much attention he really paid to the movie, I like to think he really enjoyed it... because it was not only animated, but was a beautiful story. Thing is, though, I haven't watched the movie much, probably because it reminds me too much of my dad's last few days (he was alert all the way up until he passed away). In much the same way, I've avoided listening to Paula Abdul's "Kisses In The Wind" because it was one of the songs I was listening to the night I got the news that he had collapsed.

That's it for now. More later....
