stuph, various
Jan. 17th, 2004 12:02 amA few odds and ends since my last post:
Had a rather interesting dream Tuesday night. Remember how in my last post I said there was a lot to be done at work? Well, this dream may have solidified that. Consider: In my dream I'm parked on the side of a highway. A Boeing 737 jet flies by overhead, but there's a problem: its left engine is on fire. It descends off to my left, to the southeast I think... and disappears behind a hill. There's no explosion, but there is the sound of a huge splash as it apparently hits water. A small crowd that's gathered to see the incident laughs, more than likely nervously, as the damage could have been much worse. That dream left me rather confused, though I had a rather vivid memory of the dream, which is unusual considering I forget most of my dreams by the time I wake up.
On Wednesday we had a strong windstorm here... enough to wreak havoc on parts of the island. Debris everywhere, various schools closed Wednesday and Thursday due to power outages, and power and cable outages throughout the island. See details at http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/Jan/15/br/br01p.html. The upshot for me was that power was out at the apartment during the day (for how long I don't know, since I was at work)... though when power was restored it left only one (of 3) elevators in service. That meant waiting roughly half an hour or so for the elevator in the midst of a crowd of other apartment residents. The other part of that was that my cable was out until shortly before midnight.
I also researched my dream online at work (during lunch) and came up with a rather interesting explanation of at least part of my dream:
"When you dream of an airplane crashing it is most of the time synonymous with broken dreams and hopes. You may have set your goals too high to start with. You are in danger of losing control over the events and being helpless in the face of major changes. When you are not a passenger on the airplane or if the airplane you see in your dreams crashed far away from you, it might indicate that you will be witnessing some major changes in your life. Tthis change can be positive, and it will take effect only in the distant future." -- source: Hyperdictionary.com
The interpretation of that dream is rather broad. But here's how I see it:
My dream may be synonymous with broken dreams and hopes, but it's not that I set my goals too high. It's more that I'm not striving enough to achieve those goals. In particular, because I'm not a passenger on the plane, there will be a major change happening, at least on the work level. On the personal level, it's tough to say. I know there are significant changes ahead, but it's also possible the dream is foretelling something that I'm not aware of.
On to something else... remember, this is various stuph, like I said...
Next week is Further Confusion. I'll be there for the days of the con itself (January 22 through 26), but I'm not going to have any expectations as to how much fun I plan to have. I don't even know how much I'll be interacting with others either, to be honest. Several furs I know won't be at this con for one reason or another, and I don't know if I can really fit in with those furs that I do know. It's kind of like being on the outside looking in... geeky enough not to fit in with normal society, but also being a misfit among misfits. Fortunately (?), some cats tend to be loners, though others can also be sociable.
The trip will be a nice break from work, but I can easily see myself holing up in the room for much of the con...
