And so it begins.
Feb. 28th, 2013 07:47 pmThe sequester -- an automatic set of across-the-board cuts to the federal budget -- has begun. And with it, the impacts.
In about two weeks or so I should receive, in writing, official notice of partial furloughs to begin in April.
On or around 25 April, the furloughs begin. These are effectively a 20 percent cut in pay since 20 percent of my working hours will be cut.
The upshot of all of this, of course, is easy and immediate. No leisure travel. Any extracurricular activity I do will likely favor those that are cheap or free (volunteering, going to the gym/pool/running) over those that cost $$$ (movies, shopping).
I suppose it's a good thing we haven't been going out much lately since otherwise I'd be spending a lot more than I am now, and cutting back won't seem so painful.
