Not exactly a warm fuzzy here
Sep. 1st, 2011 09:29 pmYesterday there were rumblings at work about the Air Force looking to cut 4,000 civilian jobs starting next fiscal year, which begins October 1.
Obviously this doesn't exactly bode well for yours truly since yes, I'm employed by the AF in a GS-11 slot. Several of those at my workcenter who got potential pink-slip notices were GS-13s, and they are technical experts (one notch higher up than me).
I haven't received anything... YET. Note the keyword is "yet."
However, that could change very soon, and come October I could find myself involuntarily unemployed. Not something I want to think or worry about right now since it's far too early to tell what'll happen, but if it starts to look like I'll be unemployed next fiscal year, I'll have to seriously start thinking about moving to the Mainland, and probably also switching Guard units, depending on how things pan out.
Obviously that's a last-resort move, and not something that I'm going to do just yet. We'll have to see how this all plays out first. With luck, I won't be affected, but there's no telling what'll happen at this point.
