Proverbs 15:9 - "The mind of man plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps."
Last week I voted absentee in the general election, though as late as the Sunday before, I began to have second thoughts about one of the candidates that I had voted for. Did I make a wise decision? Or did I choose poorly, as the knight in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" said?
I had mixed feelings this morning when I read the election results as well. I voted across party lines, voting for both Democrats and Republicans, but none of the Republicans I voted for won, while all of the Democrats did. And yet there's been a political shift in Congress, with Republicans taking the House and more seats -- but not the majority -- in the Senate.
Most of my Facebook friends are conservative and were very disappointed with the local election results. But one person put things into perspective by saying that we should trust God's plans, for He has something much bigger in mind than any of us could ever imagine.
And as I thought about that posting, the above verse from Proverbs popped into my head, as well as Jeremiah 29:11 - "'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.'"
I don't know where the next several years will take us, but I trust God will see us through. And even if things fall apart in the near future (which I of course hope doesn't happen), there is still something to look forward to beyond the grave.
