I know, I only update here sporadically at best, so I should probably go ahead and post an update.
Last week I was in the Seattle-Tacoma area (staying in Tacoma, near McChord AFB/Ft Lewis) for Guard TDY. Splurged a bit on airfare to upgrade from coach to first class, but figured it was worth it. Everything else is pretty much paid for though I have to file a travel voucher next week to ensure that I don't have to pay out of pocket.
Somewhat at the last minute I got to see
aeto and
frysco, check out the Hiram Chittenden locks and go boating. That was fun though the temperatures while boating were a bit on the chilly side, except for a few warm land breezes coming off Seattle.
Haven't gotten around to posting pix of the trip yet but hope to be doing so soon. Got to see the Space Needle. Hard to say if it's overrated but I wanted to at least say that I got to see it once. One thing I will say, though, is that summertime around dusk is a good time to go because you get to see the city during the day and at night. If the weather is cooperative (sunny/no clouds) it's even better.
Also a bit at the last minute was meeting
chipuni for dinner. I don't remember exactly where we went but I do remember the food being very good, and it was nice to see other furs that I normally see only at cons nowadays.
Got back on Wednesday, worked a day shift Thursday and have been pretty much taking it easy for the past few days.
One possible change may be afoot though: I may be forced to separate from Guard because of the new AF PT test. There have been a very high number of failures, and the way the new test is designed failing any component (push ups, crunches, run, waist measurement) results in an automatic failure for the whole test. I also have only two attempts to pass, and after the second failure it's administrative separation time. Given all that, and that I haven't really kept up with PT lately, I don't expect to be in the Guard much longer (maybe six months to a year at best). I will at least be able to keep my civilian job though, but I won't have the added income that I've been getting (around $500-$600/month).
Lani seems to have become very attached to me lately. I think it's because I boarded her at a veterinary clinic while I was away (my sister, who I've asked to watch Lani in the past, was away on a mission trip), and she must have missed me quite a bit. (Yes, I missed her too.) She seems to have forgiven me as far as I can tell though.
