Checking in
Jul. 30th, 2010 12:04 amIf you're on FB you know I'm still around. For the rest of you, that's why I'm posting this.
Most of this month has been filled up with work and one off-island trip for a commander's conference for HIANG mid-month. Also saw a few movies here and there.
The off-island trip wasn't anything particularly special... a couple of days at the Hilton Waikoloa, which is a nice hotel that features a monorail-like tram and boats to shuttle you from one end of the property to the other. Check it out here.
Movies: saw a pawful of 'em this month. Quick reviews of each follow, along with my rating (scale of 1 to 4 stars):
- Despicable Me (* * *): definitely see this in 3-D if you can. The movie (and Gru's Minions) are very amusing. I'd get the (free) app from Best Buy to decode what they're saying at the end. Didn't know about this ahead of time or I'd have been ready to decode what they were saying.
- The Last Airbender (* 1/2): Yeah I know, even one star is probably being overly generous. 3-D was a waste (though I was expecting it). It was okay for me because I never watched the cartoon, but if you've ever followed the cartoon then the movie will likely suck big time. Let's see how many Razzie Awards it wins next year (maybe all of 'em?).
- Predators (* * 1/2): Lots of action, plot is okay. Never saw the first one so it's hard to say how it compares.
- The Sorcerer's Apprentice (* * 1/2): Hey, it kills two hours, and I thought it was a fairly creative way to take the Fantasia short and turn it into a movie. Oh, and stay all the way until the end of the end credits... trust me.
- Inception (* * * *): By far this one blows everything else I've seen this month out of the water. Saw it in the Titan XC theater though I'll bet IMAX would have been just as good. Definitely go see this one. It's something like 2.5 hours long though, so consider yourself warned if you have a small bladder.
