May. 2nd, 2010 04:24 pmGot some semi-interesting weather here due to a late season cold front. So far it's given us light winds and rain showers with some minor flooding. I spent most of the day indoors at guard drill so I don't know exactly what the weather was like (our office doesn't have windows).
Also got a special election ballot in the mail. This one is to vote on who will take the remainder of Representative Neil Abercrombie's term (Abercrombie resigned to run for governor). I'm torn between a Democrat and a Republican as far as voting goes. I've been leaning toward the blue side because I think the candidate in question (Ed Case) will be good for the state as a whole. The more conservative side of me is screaming to vote Republican (Charles Djou), who seems to have built up a convincing enough argument to sway me in that direction. Fortunately I have a few weeks to make my decision.
Once I make my decision, I'll post that I voted, but I'm not going to say who I voted for. I will say this though... I'll look at what each candidate can theoretically bring to the table and who I think is the better person for the job, and vote accordingly.
The big thing is, of course, to get out and vote.
On the flip side, is anyone who voted for Barack Obama in 2008 having voter's remorse, or am I the only one that thinks every so often about the "what ifs" had John McCain and Sarah Palin become our President and Vice President, respectively? I'm not saying things would have been better... for all I know, things could have been much worse.
But I have a very strong feeling that in 2012, regardless of who runs for the Republicans (it could be Dan Quayle and Mitt Romney, for all we know), we're going to have a Republican Chief Executive and a Republican-controlled Congress. Whether or not that outcome ends up being good is for history to decide. Maybe it's a good thing that the world is supposed to end that year?
