The X-Files: I Want To Believe
Jul. 27th, 2008 10:55 pmSaw this one on Saturday.
I would come fairly close to recommending that you not waste your money on this one. It's not a terrible movie per se, but it feels like you're watching a 2-part TV episode, sans commercials. While you have something that's somewhat paranormmal, it seems as though Chris Carter is focusing more on the "belief" aspect rather than the paranormal part. This one I give one claw up, one claw down... the caveat being that the one claw up is just marginally up.
The basic premise is several yaers after Mulder and Scully have left the FBI and gone their own separate ways, when an FBI agent working on a case involving the disappearance of another FBI agent requests that Scully (now working as a physician) locate Mulder to help solve the case. Mulder doesn't want to work without Scully, and the plot is on.
I'm not going to say more about what happens next, but perhaps the box office figures from this weekend tell the story: this one came in fourth, behind "The Dark Knight", "Step Brothers" and "Mamma Mia". When a movie that opens falls behind an ABBA-based chick flick, you know it's not going to be that great. In fact, this one just barely beat out "Journey to the Center of the Earth", which I only liked because of the 3D eye candy version that I saw.
But I digress. If you liked the X-Files series and want to see Mulder and Scully again, then it might be worth it. But I doubt this one's gonna create a new generation of X-Files fans.
