Trip report, part 1
Jun. 25th, 2008 01:56 amYeah, the trip is already over half over and I'm only now getting a chance to update my LJ. So, in a nutshell, here's how things have been so far:
Friday -- Got in on a red-eye, picked up the rental car and headed to the hotel. The original plan was to get a Nissan Altima or similar but I was able to get a decent deal to upgrade to a Cadillac Escalade for a total of roughly $900 (including insurance and a full tank of gas) for the entire time. That included loss damage waiver and a liability supplement that not only covers the vehicle up to $1 million but also has the rental car company's insurance pay first. That means that unless I'm liable for over $1 million in damage my insurance isn't affected, if I understand everything correctly. And as it turned out, getting a bigger, more comfortable vehicle was a worthwhile investment because it paid dividends in terms of travelling.
Saturday -- Went to
technocollie's cousin's wedding. I'll admit I was a bit uncomfortable because I didn't really know the bride and groom, but I had actually met at least some of the family a few months before. The wedding was a traditional Catholic wedding, while the reception was at a yacht club. Everything was very nice, just quite a bit more formal than ones that I've been to... but then again, the ones I've been to have all been in Hawaii, so....
Sunday and Monday -- Two days at Disneyland as well as at the Apple store in Santa Ana. Got a 2-day park hopper pass because it costs the same amount as getting two one-park, one-day passes. The latter would be worth it only if I wasn't sure if I was going to come back for the second day and if I absolutely only wanted to see one park. But as it turned out, California Adventure wasn't bad... there was a Pixar parade as well as "Soaring Over California". And no, I didn't go on "Tower of Terror".
Tuesday -- Drove up to San Jose and met up with
makovette for dinner. Checked into the hotel... which brings me to now. :)
On tap for the rest of the trip... "Kung Fu Panda" and "Wall-E" at some point... possibly a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium (it has a new "Wild About Otters" exhibit that I want to check out)... and maybe even the Tech Museum. We're playing it pretty much by ear at this point though...
