Apr. 2nd, 2008 02:13 amBeen getting things ready for a Hawaii Air Nat'l Guard TDY to L.A. this weekend. It's a 2-day TDY for an exercise, with one day travel on either side. So even though I won't be in harm's way (though you could theoretically dispute that given what L.A. is like), I will be off-island for a few days.
A couple of major news items this past week, one of which I already posted about:
Both Molokai Ranch and Aloha Airlines have called it quits. Aloha is keeping its freight service alive for now, but its passenger service is now officially done. What this means for the rest of the people of Hawaii remains to be seen. Hawaiian is still flying, though, and hopefully it won't have to cut back either, especially since I plan to go to FC09... considering that its theme is Polynesia.
I think Molokai Ranch's closure affected mostly the residents of Molokai, but I could be wrong...

technocollie also was in the hospital over the weekend after suffering a heart attack. Apparently what had happened was that he had been using his sleep apnea machine, his brother had been chain smoking near the machine, and thus the machine was forcing secondhand smoke into his lungs. The elevated nicotine plus one of his medications overstressed his heart, and well... you pretty much know the rest of the story. I kinda figured something was up, but I didn't really know any details as I had been working all weekend.
On Monday I got to DJ (though briefly) a dance on SL (thanksmakovette!). I'd actually done it the week before, but was trying to work around my work schedule as well as technocollie's availability. I'm hoping to do more DJ-type stuff, but it'll largely depend on when I'm free and most of the stuff I do will be nearly last-minute deals unless I know for sure I'll be free on a given night.
Also got the new Airman Battle Uniform (ABU) for the HIANG. Granted, I probably didn't need to do it, but I plan to stay in the HIANG as long as I can, and if that extends beyond 2011 (the mandatory ABU wear date), then I'll need a set anyway.
One of my co-workers told me the other day that all black cats are at least part Siamese. I'm not sure where she got that info from, but I haven't been able to verify it anywhere. Still, though, it does explain why Lani is so vocal. Interestingly enough, though, in sunlight and at the proper angle, you can actually see a fairly strong hint of orange-brown under the black. I suspect that Lani could have easily turned out to look like the 9-Lives cat Morris had she inherited a slightly different set of genes, but then again I'm just guessing...
