Dec. 11th, 2007 01:46 amA birthday shout-out to
ionotter! Don't get into too much trouble now, okay?
Yeah, I know... telling an otter to stay out of trouble is like telling a cat to stay out of the catnip.
Been working night shift over the weekend and have a couple days break before I pull two more night shifts. I'm not a big fan of night shifts because they throw my biological clock all out of whack but at least I get pay differentials of 10% for working between 1800-0600 and 25% for working on Sundays. Even for a GS-11, which only pays about $45k a year, that isn't too bad... and it does allow me to splurge on occasional goodies.
But if you're thinking about asking to borrow from me... do not even theeeenk about it. :P I'm already a bank to one fur as it is, and that's more than enough for me right now.
It's a good thing FC isn't going to be held the first weekend in January. It would be nearly impossible to get flights from here to the mainland, given that (a) many college students would be going back around that time, (b) the flights around New Year's Day are all booked and then some because of the Sugar Bowl -- UH is playing in it this year, and (c) it would be cost-prohibitive because the flights are all full.
Saw "Dan in Real Life" last week. It's offbeat humor, not necessarily lowbrow, but more like the "Little Miss Sunshine" type of humor. While the movie was amusing, I'm probably not likely to get it on DVD when it comes out.
Last week we had several days of heavy rain that was reminiscent of the two months we had a couple years ago, when we had over a month of heavy rain and thunderstorms. It wasn't quite as bad, but I think the night we had gusty winds, heavy rain and lightning spooked Lani. I had gone to work that night and when I came home I discovered that she had thrown up -- twice. At least it was near the litterbox, so it was fairly easy to clean up. She hasn't done it since, so I think she was probably just stressed from the incident.
In other news, I was checking out some old "Electric Company" clips on YouTube and took a walk down memory lane with some of Tom Lehrer's songs ("Silent E" and "Ly", for example). Someone also posted a 30-minute long clip consisting of opening themes from different cartoons of the 80s (and followed it up with a similar post for 90s cartoons). Talk about a walk down memory lane!
