Stuph, various
Jan. 15th, 2007 02:05 amVarious odds and ends as my departure date to San Jose for FC07 draws nearer....
A couple of weeks ago,
technocollie and I met up with
ponyscribbles at a local coffee house (kinda like Starbucks, but it was called Coffee House). It was cool meeting up with
ponyscribbles again for at least one last time before she moved. Interestingly enough, I found out that she lived not far from where I was. For reference, and for those who know Oahu, I'm on a dead-end street that goes up a hill between the hospital and the fire station in Kaimuki.
A quick btw... for those who have attempted to call my cell lately but haven't had a response (you know who you are!), I was unable to answer my cell on Saturday because I was helping out at church... and my phone has lately been rather notorious for cutting people off when I attempt to answer. So... if you call and I don't answer, try again or leave me voicemail.
Checked the temps in SJ... lows in the mid-20s and highs in the 50s, eh? I think I'm definitely gonna be packing a few layers of clothes for the con... :)
Other FC-related stuff... thanks
makovette for info on the SL party... I'll probably be there unless the time conflicts with a major event at the con. :) But I fully expect to spend most of the con wandering around, meeting a pawful of furs and mostly vegging out in the lobby or in the room (translated: some of you may have to really hunt me down at the con and/or drag me out of the room... but if you can find
technocollie chances are said LJ user can get ahold of me.....
Switching gears... saw 3 movies over the past week. Two were okay, one was fairly good. Starting with the fairly good one: "Alpha Dog" -- it was one I wanted to see, and one that I knew was going to be rather serious. But my one and only comment is that Johnny Truelove is (was?) an idiot. I think Frankie had far more common sense. And I recognized the windmills out near Palm Desert (I think that was because of the several times I visited
clipfox back in the mid-90s)...
Also saw "Pan's Labyrinth," which, as Randy Jackson would say, was "aw-ite" but it really wasn't anything spectacular. One bit of advice: this one is a foreign film in Spanish with English subtitles. It didn't help that we ended up sitting way too far forward to read the subtitles comfortably.
Finally, I saw "Happily Never After." In a nutshell, the animation was... aw-ite, especially considering it was the first time for many, if not all, of the animation companies involved, several of them German. Unfortunately, the plot sucked, which made me place this movie halfway on a 4-star rating (and that was probably a bit generous only because I gave the animation some slack on my rating). One of the taglines (from IMDB) reads, "Don't Let Your Hair Down. Don't Go To The Ball. Don't Visit Grandma." I would also add, "Don't See This Movie".....
Not much else to add at this point except perhaps for my flight info on FC: :) for anyone keeping track, I arrive on Hawaiian Airlines #44, departing at 2:05pm from Honolulu and arriving at 9pm in San Jose. Hope to see some of ya there! :)
