Busy week....
Jun. 16th, 2006 12:03 amand "all kine stuffs" to write about:
Last weekend I went to see the movie "Cars" (saw it twice, once Friday and once Sunday). I already know that
haystack would like this movie, and perhaps
audiwulf as well. Yes, they use actual NASCAR race drivers as the voices of some of the characters (Darrell Waltrip = Darrell Cartrip... Richard Petty = The King... Mrs. Petty = Mrs. The King...) This was a good movie, definitely two claws-up for it. And perhaps the best way I can describe Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is that he's like what Roy O'Bannon (Shanghai Noon, Shanghai Knights) would have been like had he been a car. I wonder what would have happened had Jackie Chan cameoed as well. Pixar's new short ("One Man Band") has a delightful dose of vindictiveness. If you like sadism, you'll probably like the short. That's all I'll say... and in case you're wondering, yes, there's something at the very end of the movie. Won't tell you what it is though. :)
In other news, my sister told me today that one of her dogs (the pug) passed away. Apparently he died during the night... had been sick and having seizures the past week or so. When I'd go out at night, I'd hear barking and whining/crying coming from upstairs that sounded so different that I thought my sister had picked up another dog. But somehow I'm glad I didn't get to see the dog in his misery. The remaining dog, a Shih Tzu, will apparently be very lonely, but perhaps she can play with Lani since Lani seems to be so bored when I'm gone during the day that she's extremely playful and always meowing for attention when I come home at night.
Tonight we had a Combat Dining In for my squadron in an outdoor pavilion. Before this, the only similar function I had attended was a Dining Out just before I graduated OTS, so I had somewhat of an inkling of what to expect. But I had never attended a Combat Dining In before... one of the differences being that you attend the function in BDUs instead of mess dress. We also had an obstacle course that we ran in different chalks, followed by dinner (the mess portion being run similar to that of a Dining Out). The only addition was having water balloons and Super Soakers at the ready to soak those unlucky enough to partake of the grog bowl. :) BTW, if you have no clue what I'm talking about check this site (http://usmilitary.about.com/od/airforce/a/afdiningin.htm) for details.
Needless to say, I'm pretty tired after the event. Good thing I'm taking a day of leave tomorrow since I have use-or-lose leave to burn... and I can at least sleep in a bit (until 9 or 10 am when I normally wake up by 6).
