Finally drying out....
Apr. 1st, 2006 10:30 pm.... sort of, anyway.
The persistent upper-level low-pressure system to our northwest that had been anchored in place over the past 6 weeks and gave us a thorough drenching appears to be finally weakening and moving off to the east. That's supposed to allow our normal cooling trades to return but the low will still influence trade showers... so it looks like flooding could still remain a definite possibility.
One benefit of the rain was that I got to leave work rather early yesterday. I had actually started about 45 minutes earlier than I normally do plus I didn't eat lunch. That plus the "clousy" weather (as one of the local radio stations has called it) allowed me to take off from work around 1330 (1:30pm). Because of traffic (everyone on the bases pretty much got let out at the same time so it was bumper-to-bumper for most of the way on the freeway), I didn't get to meet up with
technocollie until about 1500 (3pm). We then had a late lunch, met up with another friend and hit the 1745 (5:45pm) showing of "Ice Age 2". That was actually a really good time because the theater was mostly empty since it was around dinnertime.
"Ice Age 2" was, to say the least, rather demented. But it was funny. And enjoyable. Two definite claws-up.
I'm not going to spoil the movie other than by saying that Scrat is probably my favorite "running gag" character throughout the entire movie. :)
Today I ran a few errands, including getting another litterbox for Lani (this one with a cover as well as a cat paw cleaning mat so she wouldn't track litter all over the bathroom). I also picked up a 4-vial set of Advantage Flea Control... Lani had been scratching quite a bit over the past week so I decided it was time to get her a decent flea treatment. Advantage is expensive -- 4 tubes at roughly $12 per tube -- but you apply one tube per month... and it beats using flea collars. It's also supposed to act fairly quickly... killing fleas within 12 hours and keeping fleas off kitty for 6 to 8 weeks.
In other news, I also ordered one of these guys through the mail. Got some software from
technocollie that now lets me watch my TV cable channels on my phone no matter where I am. :) That means that if I go on a trip, I should still be able to watch a local Hawaii TV channel on my phone (or on any computer that can connect to the box). :)
