In between days off
Aug. 16th, 2005 12:30 amToday (yesterday as I write this) was one of those days where I just didn't feel like going anywhere, so I stayed home. Skipped breakfast and lunch and ordered out for dinner, so both cars stayed put today.
I spent a good chunk of the morning sleeping since I was pretty tired Sunday from having worked a 12-hour shift and having had little sleep the day before. But let me go in chronological order here:
Last Friday through Sunday I worked 3 12-hour shifts. Between Saturday and Sunday I went to my brother's place for dinner...dragged
technocollie along so I'd have someone to talk to and keep me from falling asleep on the road. To put some geography in here, I live in Kaimuki -- on the eastern part of Oahu -- and my brother lives in Mililani, in central Oahu. A slow driver such as myself generally takes about half an hour to go one way between the two locations.
That dinner plus just sitting around "talking story" ended up getting me just 3 hours of sleep between Saturday and Sunday. As a result, I ended up taking my M45 to work on Sunday, mainly because of its safety features like the "lane departure warning" which alerts you if you're getting too close to a lane divider (aka running off the road).
After work on Sunday, I zonked out for about 4 hours, got up to go get dinner, then stayed up until around 3:30 Monday morning. I then slept in until around noon or so Monday.
On Monday I set up a 32" LCD HDTV TV, which replaces my flatscreen TV (I gave that one to my sister). The picture quality is pretty good, but I'll bet it'll be even better when I get an HDMI cable.
I also set up a mini-fridge which I bought at Costco last week. This fridge supposedly uses less power than the full fridge I have (which I unplugged). I don't have a lot of food, so the smaller fridge is, I think, a better idea. And I can take it with me when I move.
As I type this, it's a little after midnight Tuesday. My plan for the rest of the day (after I get up) is to go work out, maybe get something to eat, go wash the car (not sure if I'm gonna do this at home or at a car wash), then take it easy for the rest of the day.
Like clockwork, one friend has been calling almost every Saturday wanting to go out. However, I just haven't felt like going over to that side of the island, and I've ended up ignoring his phone calls.
Admittedly staying home is boring, but when you're working shifts, sometimes it's nice to have downtime to yourself...
