Nov. 10th, 2004 05:35 pmI'm really beginning to hate the administrative red tape involved with getting out of here.
Today, I tried to do whatever I could to expedite getting my orders ready, since I can't really do anything else without a set of orders. But after working whatever I could, I was finally told that my orders wouldn't be ready until next Monday or Tuesday. That's just not acceptable, because I need at least a day or two AFTER I get my orders to outprocess and finally leave the base.
On Friday I plan to have the First Sergeant (a CMSgt, or E-9) try to grease whatever skids he can. If he can work enough magic to get me my orders by midday, I might be able to fully clear the base by the end of the day. (I'm not holding my breath though.) It's looking more and more like I won't physically depart here until next Tuesday, but the only other option I have at the moment is to go back on emergency leave. I have no issues with going on leave again, but I really don't want to leave the base once I've started to outprocess.
I understand the base has limited manpower, especially in assignments and relocations, but because I'm working a humanitarian assignment I see my case as being a special one. Normally I wouldn't mind taking my time to get stuff done since I would be working my outprocessing actions way before I needed to do so. But when I want to leave no later than early next week, any delay is extremely frustrating.
It also isn't helping that my mom's condition hasn't improved since the last time I talked to my sister. In fact, my mom has become so weak that she can't even turn herself over to be changed and has been pretty unresponsive. At this point I honestly don't know if she will last until I return.
