Sep. 21st, 2004 06:16 pmOkay... I'm officially pissed.
Not at anyone or anything that's happened over the past few days... the laptop I brought with me has been an almost-constant source of aggravation and has reinforced my desire to get a new one (random crashes and system hangs). I'm not quite at the point where I want to get whatever's out there, though I'd prefer something similar to what I was running on my desktop (before it got packed).
Here's what I'm running:
- Compaq Armada 1585 running Windoze 98
- 64 meg RAM, MMX technology (<-- the main reason I didn't upgrade from Win98 to anything else)
- 2 GB HD with CD player
... and here's what's on my wishlist:
- WinXP Pro or equivalent, may also consider Linux
- DVD player and/or burner
- 1GB or greater RAM
- Lightweight (4 pounds or less, apparently, not too worried about screen size)
I'll admit I'm debating about whether or not to go to a MacOS-based system but I don't know if MacOS gets as much support or available software as Windoze (opinions, anyone?).
Otherwise I'm pondering maybe a Toshiba or Sony laptop, though I know Sony laptops tend to be rather pricey. I've heard that Hewlett-Packard has taken over Compaq... I could get a Compaq, but my frustration with the current system is causing me to consider other machines.
Any thoughts?
(And let the OS wars begin....)
