Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban
Jun. 5th, 2004 01:16 amSaw the above movie tonight (opening night)... caught the 9:45 pm showing, which had a smattering of kids, but most of them were teenagers or college-age kids. The theater was mostly full (then again, what do you expect from a Friday night?), but pretty much everyone was well-behaved.
My overall impression of the movie (no spoilers!): good story. It seems as though J.K. Rowling has used a technique that Alfred Hitchcock used, and in more recent films, M. Night Shymalan used. What this technique is, is planting certain clues within the movie that create some plot gaps... then the gaps fill in quite nicely later in the movie. From what I've read about the movie, it does seem darker than the previous one (I can't say anything about the first movie since I never saw it)... but then again, Harry, Ron and Hermione are growing up.

Apparently the reviewer really liked the movie... enough to give it 4 stars. I'm not so sure I would have rated it as highly myself, but I think it was well-done... and even if the story is sorely lacking compared to the book (or so I've heard, since I've not read the book) it was still very good.
On a different note... later I'll post an entry detailing what I've been up to in the past couple of weeks, from playing host to tour guide to checking out a pretty awesome sight on the Big Island. But that's a tale best saved for later.
