Melaleuca = snake oil?
Feb. 5th, 2004 05:59 pmLook here and decide for yourself...
Some of my cousins have really gotten into this, as a distributor and/or customer, and one of my cousins has apparently really risen high on the sales/corporate ladder as a result.
However, I've had my doubts about this ever since I heard about it from my cousins around New Year's. About 10 to 12 years ago, my brother had gotten on board as a distributor, but at the time there weren't many products and what products they DID have smelled mostly like petroleum.
Both my mom and my sister have pretty much sworn by this product, so much so that they've given up their cleaning products in favor of this. While the products themselves are apparently very good (though to be honest I can't really tell), the whole thing appears to be a reincarnation of Amway.
Those nagging doubts plus some advice from another LJ user (I won't mention names -- you know who you are) made me extremely reluctant to go to an informational seminar despite pressure from both my mom and my sister, and I finally decided not to go. My mom seemed disappointed but otherwise seemed to let it go, but with my sister it was a different story.
Without going into details, suffice it to say that I forcefully emphasized that I did not appreciate being pressured and bullied into doing something I wasn't fully ready to commit to. Not only that, I also don't like to be almost constantly pressured into being someone that my family wants me to be, instead of just being myself.
As much as I hate to say this because of my mom's sake... I can't wait to get off this island.
