I'm in Vancouver, BC Canada as I write this. I've had a rather enjoyable trip so far, but have had a few things go awry. Nothing directly affecting me, fortunately, but some friends I was with/met got hosed, and it wasn't even their fault.

But to kinda get back to the beginning... I flew out from Honolulu Thursday morning to Vancouver. Nothing eventful about the flight... it was fairly empty, about 60% full or so, and it actually pulled away from the gate 5 minutes early. It was still good I checked in early though... I was pretty much subjected to the enhanced security inspection at the checkpoint. No security wand, but I did have to take off my shoes and there seemed to be a bit of a snafu in the security personnel analyzing my laptop and cell phone.

Got picked up at the airport and headed over to Washington. For the record, a driver's license, by itself, is NOT sufficient enough to prove U.S. citizenship when travelling across the border to/from Canada. You MUST have a birth certificate or a passport in your possession (as well as a photo ID) or you could be denied entry.

Okay, I'm off the soapbox on that issue now.

In Washington, I went to a furry con (ConiFur). Got to meet several other friends/fellow furs (you know who you all are :) and enjoy what was a pretty laid-back con for the weekend. Unfortunately, it wasn't without its issues -- several fellow furs I met got hosed by miscommunication and poor planning -- and I'll leave it at that. Oh, and I will add one more thing... it's mind-boggling at times how one twit can ruin things for several others. Okay, NOW I'll leave the subject alone.

I also heard the con wasn't as good as it was last year. I think part of it was because of a mad scramble to find another hotel for the original planned dates -- the original hotel decided to close at the end of July. The new place was in a high-crime neighborhood with little to offer in terms of restaurants that were open at night.

... So now I'm in Vancouver until the end of the week. Looking forward to doing some sightseeing and taking it easy before I return on Friday. I didn't realize there was also a Vancouver, Washington... but I'm in the REAL Vancouver for the week.
